Our Mission

Pima Center for Conservation Education informs ranchers, landowners, and the public about ways to conserve water, make rangeland improvements, and sustain natural resources.

A Brief History:

As a result of the national devastation brought on by the Dust Bowl in the early to mid-1930’s, President Franklin Roosevelt recommended that each state government enact the Standard State Soil Conservation Districts Act to prevent further natural resource disasters. On August 4, 1937, Brown Creek Soil and Water Conservation District in North Carolina was the first district formed under the Act. By July 1, 1945, all 48 states had passed statures to enable the formation of Conservation Districts.

The Pima Natural Resource Conservation District (PimaNRCD) has been in existence for 80 years. The district covers 2,142,028 acres in Pima County which consists of the following conservation stewards:

The Pima Natural Resource Conservation District (PimaNRCD) established the  Pima Center for Conservation Education as a nonprofit organization. The Pima Center educates both producers and the public about conservation practices that protect water, soil, and wildlife. Explore this website for groundbreaking ideas to protect your land and the natural resources we all share.

Our hope is that the next time you see cattle grazing, you realize their owners are a family who not only produces food for your table, but also conserves water, restores areas damaged by flood or fire and improves the soil.
